Dating workshop for therapists

The psychology of dating

Rachel provides workshops to explore evidence-based approaches to dating. These cover topics such as the pros and cons of meeting online v offline, what to look for in a partner, the psychological processes involved in online dating from profiles to messaging to dates, the ingredients of successful relationships, interpersonal dynamics, and the challenges of dating as a member of a minority group, such as well-being, safety, bias, prejudice, and algorithmic discrimination.

Rachel’s approach is informed about trauma, neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ differences, needs and strengths.

Well-being in dating

Rachel provides workshops on how to bring out the best in yourself and others when you are dating, using mindfulness and other somatic practices, self-compassion and a trauma-informed approach to emotion regulation and self-care; and attachment theory to enhance your relationship with yourself and others.

This workshop is also available as an online, self-directed course.

“I have been collaborating with Rachel to hold workshops on dating, relationships and moving on from divorce since 2016. We work really well together and are very aligned on having an ethical, responsible approach to supporting people through big changes in their lives.

Her workshops always received great feedback as they were inclusive, reflective and open. She facilitated great discussions with a good evidence base from psychology. People always came away feeling that they had learnt something as well as reflected on their emotions, beliefs and behaviours – including myself – and with the tools to apply it to their dating and relationships.

What makes Rachel unique is that she is always up-to-date with the latest evidence and practical applications of psychological theory, presenting it in such an accessible, engaging and entertaining way, while at all times being professional and approachable.”

Clinical psychologist

I attended Rachel’s workshop on supporting clients with dating to support me in my development as a coach working with clients in a range of contexts. The workshop was absolutely fantastic. So informative and Rachel’s values and integrity were evident throughout! Rachel’s inclusive and neuroaffirming approach was evident in the content and delivery. As a Coaching Psychologist I particularly appreciated that Rachel presents carefully selected research findings, that underpin her approach, in an accessible and critical way to support coaches applying an evidence-based practice.

Chartered Coaching Psychologist

“I participated in a number of group coaching sessions with Rachel. Her sessions were consistently stimulating, supportive, and thought-provoking. Rachel had a remarkable ability to instil confidence in participants, encouraging us to explore our creativity and trust our instincts when taking the lead in discussions and exercises. Her approach was inclusive and grounded, always tailored to the needs of individuals in the group. She used clear, accessible language and designed activities that were both enjoyable and challenging, adapting flexibly to ensure everyone could engage meaningfully. When a fellow participant struggled with reading and writing, for instance, Rachel sensitively facilitated collaborative approaches so that their ideas were still valued and included.

She skilfully incorporated music, art, word play, quizzes, and interpersonal discussion to weave a rich tapestry of memorable moments and insights. This creative blend made the material stick — I often found myself recalling key points from a session days or even weeks later. Rachel built strong, authentic relationships with participants, treating everyone with dignity and genuine care. She also wove multicultural themes into her sessions with humour and relevance, enriching our discussions without ever seeming tokenistic. Most importantly, she created a safe, welcoming space where people could be themselves, express thoughts openly, and support each other. I always left her sessions with a stronger sense of community, greater self-belief, and a clearer awareness of others’ needs.”

“Rachel put participants at ease and created a relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere. Rachel’s input was well researched, relevant and inclusive. She interacted very naturally and graciously during the Q&A session afterwards, showing genuine interest in others. A fun and helpful evening.”

“I have been attending Rachel’s seminars since 2017. I like that Rachel blends academic knowledge and practical skills in her teaching, whilst also drawing upon learners’ own experiences. Even though I consider myself to be quite well versed when it comes to contemporary dating and relationship skills, I still enjoyed the course and learnt new things.

I found the idea of meta-dating – talking about dating with the person I’m dating! – especially interesting, as well as the evidence-based research on relationships from The Gottman Institute.”

“Having already had a few 1:1 dating coaching sessions with Rachel, I was keen to take part in her group course in order to have more interaction with others who have also been struggling on this journey and learning from their experiences. I really enjoyed the group course! Rachel’s extensive knowledge, from her coaching and research, is evident in the sessions. They were carefully planned and developed but also she managed to personalise them and respond to slightly more individual needs or questions within the group once the sessions were under way. Rachel provided good materials to download, in addition to the use of her Dating Workbook. I have found these very helpful and the Dating Workbook is great for both guided and independent use. It has been good to remind myself about ‘who I am’, in order to be able to put that forward to potential dates – especially as I feel I am quite a different person now that I am almost 20 years older than when I last dated! Equally useful for me has been working out my ‘deal-breakers’ and ‘deal-makers’ to help me be more focussed and intentional with my dates. I look forward to putting these tools and experiences into practice on my next dates and using the Workbook to reflect on how I am progressing towards finding my next relationship. Thank you, Rachel, for all your guidance and support!”

“I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to discuss online dating with others. This went into everything: the messages, the profile-photos, the etiquette on dates, etc. There was an opportunity for different views and debate. I learnt a lot from others.”

“This course [on self care in dating] taught me the importance of maintaining my identity and honouring my needs while making new connections. It has been instrumental in helping me shift my mindset from constantly seeking approval to embracing just being myself and feeling ok with that. I’m astounded by how positively this change has been received and enriched my interactions with those around me. I highly recommend it!”

“Rachel’s communication style is exceptional. She communicates clearly, thoughtfully, and with great empathy, making it easy for participants to engage in meaningful discussions while also ensuring that all perspectives are considered. Rachel skilfully facilitated interaction, ensuring that all attendees felt comfortable contributing. After the first workshop, we received positive feedback from staff on how much they enjoyed the session with Rachel – we then had more staff signing up to the second and third workshops, which highlighted how popular Rachel was!”

“Rachel delivered two tailor-made sessions for us at OPDC on communication styles and the sessions were very effective. Her sessions were tactfully delivered with clear communication that helped everyone in the sessions to engage and the role play section was particularly effective where we got to practise with her and got live feedback. The sessions helped me and other participants use the tools and methods for communicating in both our personal and professional contexts.”

“Rachel’s Relationship Series was an invaluable experience for our team. Her sessions on enhancing interpersonal relationships and fostering productive communication in the workplace were insightful, practical and engaging. Rachel created a safe and interactive environment that encouraged open dialogue and self-reflection. Importantly, she addressed various protected characteristics with sensitivity and inclusivity, ensuring that discussions respected diversity. The strategies she shared have already improved collaboration and understanding. I highly recommend Rachel’s programme to any organisation looking to strengthen workplace relationships and takeaway tools that are applicable personally as well.”
